International and Regional Economic Prospects for the Mining Sector:
Towards a New Mining Cycle?
Presented by the Association des économistes québécois
Chairs: Jean Labbé, Imad Rherrad and Jean-Philippe Brosseau (ASDEQ)

The price of metals is mainly influenced by international markets, but also by the regional economic environment. After peaking in 2011, metal prices have declined in the past two years. Recently, however, the price of certain metals has evolved independently, according to their respective features. Is this a sign of a new global mining cycle? Can Québec benefit from this new cycle and, if so, in what way? What is the outlook for metals extracted and processed in Québec? What impact will the future evolution of metal prices have on the Québec economy? In this session, several experts will present their read of the metal markets and examine the situation of the Québec, Canadian and international mining sectors.
